Hello to all you beautiful brains out there and welcome to The Beauty Heretic.
I’m a professional make-up and hair artist and educator of over 20 years with a science degree. I’m not here to provide make-up tutorials or flog you expensive products, there’s a plethora of blogs already doing that.
In recent years, product efficacy (the ability for a product to produce an intended result) has gone by the wayside in favour of fad marketing claims like ‘natural’ or ‘clean’ beauty. This website is aimed at anyone who has been mislead by a product claim, has wanted to know the truth about a product claim or rumor, is over expensive or underperforming even damaging products and those not wanting to waste their hard earned money on products that don’t work as intended or claimed.
I hope to reach the people who want to know the truth about how beauty products and tools work, clarify untruthful or misleading claims both in both professional marketing of products and internet gossip and what beauty products really work and why, as well as addressing industry ‘trends’, some how not to’s and the occasional rant.
There is, quite frankly, a lot of.. ah hem.. b^!!$#!t in the beauty industry. Some of the BS is due to mis-education and fear mongering, others due to sales gimmicks and misleading marketing. It is often disingenuously reinforced by so called beauty gurus or influencers.
There are far too few knowledgeable and educated experts weighing in on beauty news and reviews out here in internetland. I aim to add a drop of truth to that bucket. Honesty and integrity will always be more important that clicks and contradeals.
I can’t promise you will like every piece of information I will pose, but I promise what I write here will be thoroughly researched with facts, references and scientific explanations.
I hope you will find our journey demystifying the BS of beauty enlightening and entertaining!
